Abraham Sutton

Frederick County, Maryland was created in 1748 from parts of Prince George's and Baltimore Counties. In 1776 it was divided into Washington, Montgomery and, Frederick Counties. In 1837 parts of Frederick and Baltimore Counties formed Carroll County.

Abraham Sutton was born March 22, 1738/39 in Somerset, New Jersey. He was the son of David and Elizabeth Sutton .

He married Mary Chenowith. She was born on March 22, 1743/45 and was the daughter of William Chenowith.

Mary and Abraham's children probably included:

Joanna Sutton (1761, married Ebenezer Heaton),
Ann Sutton (1763)
Mary Sutton (1764, married David Frazee),
David Sutton (1766, married Anchor Fox),
Sarah Sutton (1767, married David Fox),
Andrew Sutton (1769), and
William Sutton (1771).

Abraham was a Baptist minister.

He served as a private in the American Revolution.

On September 6, 1775

Mary, wife of Abraham Sutton, upon oath chargeth him [James Sutton] with indecent behaviour toward her.

On October 13, 1775

Consulted upon the scandalous report brought against Brother James Sutton, a member of this church and a minister by letter of dismission from the Church of Christ at Scotch Plains, New Jersey and found no cause of accusation.

In 1781 he was taxed in Amwell, Washington County, Pennsyvania.

On May 3, 1791 the Washington County court record said Abraham Sutton and Philip Hewit were appointed guardians of the minor children of David Frazee: Phoebe, Sarah, David, Mary and Ann Frazee who were all under age 14 years old.

Mary died after February, 1797 in Lone Pine.
